Betty Jean Schmitke

Betty was born Sept. 15, 1931 in Donaldson, MN Betty liked to roll down the pond hill in an old barrel. It was more thrilling than a fair ride or coasting on boxes in the snow. Betty is remembered as always being willing to listen and give a helping hand when needed. Of all the girls, she looked most like Alvina.
Betty met Bill Waterworth when she was working at the Marshall County Courthouse in Warren, MN. Betty and Bill were married on September 5, 1951 at the St. Petri Lutheran Church in rural Stephen, MN. Betty was active as a 4H volunteer leader, taught Sunday School, and worked with the Ladies Aid at Bethania Free Lutheran Church in Newfolden. She also enjoyed reading and gardening. Betty and Bill had 8 children (the oldest, Petter, died in 1957 at age 5 in a farm accident). Their 8th child, Carol was born 11 years after the next youngest, Gail. Bill died October 8, 1996. Betty died of a heart attack at home on February 9, 2004. They are buried in Newfolden, MN
